Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
